An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide financial leadership within a forward-thinking organisation that is recognised by Ofsted as being a ‘Good’ provider of children’s social care.

Our vision is to put children and young people at the heart of everything we do.  We have a clear single focus: to deliver excellent social work and family support for the city’s most vulnerable children, young people, and families.

Our Finance & Resources directorate are responsible for leading and managing the Trust to be an autonomous and high performing organisation, ensuring services are aligned to deliver the Trust’s strategic objectives, business plan and for providing expert advice to the Board.

As a Finance Manager within Birmingham Children’s Trust, you will be responsible for the Trust’s capital programme, including our own residential estate and the West Midlands Safe Centre project.

The West Midlands Safe Centre project is a Department for Education funded building providing a home for at risk children in the West Midlands area. The project is being led by Birmingham Children’s Trust who are acting as the lead interface into 14 local authorities around the West midlands. You will therefore be the finance lead for this significant multi-million-pound programme, which is looking to open in 2027.

You will be an experienced professional, with excellent communication, business partnering and employee relations skills. You will be able to build effective collaborative working relationships with a wide range of diverse stakeholders.

You must be fully CCAB qualified and have a thorough working knowledge of professional financial working practice, particularly capital, and all relevant regulations and legislation.

You should have experience of managing finance teams within a complex, politically sensitive organisation and providing professional advice to colleagues and staff at all levels.

You will lead by example for the Finance team and be a coach and advocate to managers on financial matters across the Trust. You will have excellent organisational skills to manage and see through key projects in this fast-paced environment, and the ability to be resilient under pressure.

We offer hybrid working, generous holiday entitlement and an attractive benefits package.

Some office-based attendance will be required, this can be discussed further with candidates at interview.
