An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide financial operations leadership for a forward-thinking organisation that is recognised by Ofsted as being a ‘Good’ provider of children’s social care.

As Head of Financial Operations for Birmingham Children’s Trust, you will manage on a day-to-day basis all Trust financial operational and compliance processes ensuring that all operational and corporate deadlines are met, and targets achieved.

You will lead a team ensuring that all financial operations processes are compliant with statutory regulations, those of internal and external audit and other Trust and City Council policies and regulations.

One of your key responsibilities will be to manage and control the work of the financial operations team ensuring that key activities such as change management, data reporting, internal control and support, and query resolution are undertaken in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

Key tasks undertaken by the Team for which you will be responsible will include:

  • Cash management, including Petty cash and Children’s savings accounts.
  • Bank reconciliation.
  • Payroll
  • Pensions, payroll, and administration
  • All matters related to Tax, including VAT.
  • Financial systems, including day to day operations as well as technical updates.
  • Managing key relationships with Birmingham City Council, Suppliers, Commissioning & Procurement, and other internal and external agencies ensuring that all business needs are met.
  • Accounts receivables processes, including raising invoices; payment recovery, debtor statement reconciliation and that transactional activity relating to accounts receivables is managed efficiently and in accordance with corporate requirements.
  • Accounts payable processes, ensuring that all deadlines are met, and suppliers are paid accurately and on the due date and that supplier debts are managed appropriately, and reconciliation of supplier statements is undertaken.

You will be an experienced professional, with excellent communication, business partnering and employee relations skills. You will be able to build effective collaborative working relationships with a wide range of diverse stakeholders.

You must have a degree or professional qualification in a relevant subject AND significant experience in financial operations.

You should have experience of leading a high performing operational service in other large, complex, and fast paced organisations.

You will lead by example for the Financial Operations team and be a coach and advocate to managers on all financial operations matters across the Trust. You will have excellent organisational skills to manage and see through key projects in this fast-paced environment.
