We have an exciting opportunity here in Birmingham Children’s Trust, to develop your practice working therapeutically as a senior social work assistant in Breaking the Cycle Service and New Growth Services (grade 3).

Breaking the Cycle (BtC) is a therapeutic service for people who have lost a child through

adoption and want to access support. We work with mothers, fathers and couples. BtC is a voluntary, non-statutory service. Our therapeutic service aims to reduce the trauma associated with adoption, preventing future adoptions where possible, building healthy relationships and improving lives. We strive to keep families together where safe to do so and offer specialist therapeutic support to people who are at risk of further care proceedings.

We have recently extended our service offer to young care experienced parents who are expecting their first baby to provide intensive support to vulnerable and often isolated young people at a time when they are due to become parents themselves. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of further developing the intensive and targeted support to parents living in Birmingham.

The Breaking the Cycle senior social work assistant role will be part of the developing intensive and targeted support service which presently incorporates, Families Together +, Family Group Conferencing, Life Long Links and our Intensive Family Therapy service. We are a diverse team with therapeutic qualifications and experience in the fields of adoption and fostering; family and friends; contextual safeguarding, children in care and family support. We are looking for a senior social work assistant who is passionate and committed to providing support to our first families, some of whom are the most vulnerable adults in society and to be part of breaking the cycle of recurrent care proceedings in order to help children safely remain with their parents and family.
