As a Senior Social Worker in our Children’s Advice and Support Services you will take a leading role in improving the quality of professional social work across the breadth of the casework cycle, complying with legislative requirements at all times and in accordance with best practice.
We will look to you to ‘walk the floor’ supporting our referral and advice officers who are at the ‘front door’ of our services to ensure that all requests are sign posted correctly.
We’ll also expect you to provide technical and professional expertise to less experienced social workers, mentoring them and sharing your knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, guidance, research, policy and procedures. Another important part of the role will involve actively promoting a ‘joined-up’ approach to effective partnership working, both with service users as well as other teams, agencies and organisations.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
With an approved social work qualification, you’ll have Health Care Profession Council (HCPC) registration, together with extensive experience of working with vulnerable children and their families, as well as statutory and voluntary agencies. You’ll require a thorough working knowledge of professional social work practices and all relevant legislation, and be able to demonstrate the ability to intervene effectively within situations of increasing complexity and challenge.
Some experience of supervising students and/or colleagues is also required, along with an ongoing commitment to professional learning and development and an adherence to Birmingham City Council’s values.
